Planning a Pre-Wedding Shoot That Feels Like You

Location, light, outfits and timing: a simple guide to a pre-wedding shoot you will actually enjoy, and photographs that look like the two of you.

A pre-wedding shoot is the one part of the wedding that is only about the two of you. No rituals to keep to time, no guests to greet. Planned well, it is a relaxed day out that leaves you with photographs you will use for invitations, the sangeet screen and the walls of your first home.

Choose a Place That Means Something

The best locations are rarely the most famous ones. Think about where you met, a café you always return to, a riverbank, a garden, the lanes of your hometown. A place with a story gives the photographs a story too. If you would rather travel, choose somewhere with a few different looks close together, so you are not spending the session in the car.

Plan Around the Light

Early morning and the hour before sunset give the softest, warmest light and the fewest crowds. Harsh midday sun creates squinting and hard shadows. If your only free time is midday, we look for shade, covered spaces or indoor locations instead.

Outfits: Two or Three Looks Is Plenty

  • Pick one outfit that feels like your everyday selves, and one that feels dressed-up.
  • Coordinate colours rather than matching exactly. Tones that sit well together photograph better than identical ones.
  • Avoid large logos and very busy prints, which pull attention from your faces.
  • Bring comfortable footwear for walking between spots and change at the location.

Forget About Posing

Most couples worry that they will not know what to do in front of the camera. You do not need to. We give small prompts: walk together, whisper something, share a joke, and photograph what happens in between. The frames people love most are almost always the unplanned ones.

When to Schedule It

Book the shoot a few weeks or months before the wedding. That leaves time for editing, and for using the photographs on invitations or at your functions, without adding stress to the final week.

If you are planning a pre-wedding shoot, send us a message with your date and a few places you love, and we will help you shape the day.
